Treatment Center Directory Listings

We publish full treatment center profiles, not phonebook entries.

Eight in ten internet users look for health information. Only e-mail and search engines occupy more online time.[1]

That’s why our directory rewards patients and referring physicians with full profiles of hyperbaric treatment centers. We don’t just list contact information. We help people understand. Our profiles link treatment center data to our extensive information about:

Our profile almost always provides more information about a participating hyperbaric treatment center than does its own hospital's website.

Facilities that participate in our directory are actively helping patients and referring physicians understand their capabilities. They help us validate and share critical data about:

  • Accessibility—Is hyperbaric treatment available around the clock? What kinds of patients are treated? Which other services are integrated with HBOT?
  • Hyperbaric chambers—We only list treatment centers using FDA-cleared hyperbaric chambers. We provide the quantity, type, and other data about the chambers used at participating facilities.
  • Diseases and Conditions—Each treatment center identifies the diseases and conditions they have the equipment, staff, and expertise to treat. Not all treatment centers treat all conditions, nor should they be expected to.
  • Staff—Our standard profiles identify the treatment center leadership. ProfilePlus listings provide information about the clinical staff’s training, certifications, and practice specialties.
  • Accreditations and Certifications—We identify all treatment centers accredited by the Undersea and Hyperbaric Medical Society.
  • More—As we expand the depth of our profiles we ask participating treatment centers to provide more information.

Eligibility

We don’t list every facility with a chamber. To be included in our directory a treatment center has to verify they have the equipment and staff to practice evidence-based hyperbaric oxygen therapy. This means using FDA-cleared chambers to treat UHMS-approved conditions.

Nearly every hospital-affiliated treatment center meets our eligibility criteria. Unless they’re conducting a clinical trial, hospitals are usually restricted to treating only UHMS-approved conditions. These are the conditions for which the evidence demonstrates HBOT works.

Independent treatment centers have more flexibility and are more likely to treat off-label conditions. We include independent centers if their equipment and staff are comparable to those at hospital-affiliated facilities and if they don’t make clearly violative claims about the effectiveness of hyperbaric oxygen therapy.

We don’t list mild hyperbaric treatment centers because mild hyperbaric chambers (Gamow bags) are not FDA-cleared for treatment of anything other than acute mountain sickness. Aside from that, there is no evidence mild HBOT works. Any claims to the contrary may be in violation of federal laws designed to prevent healthcare fraud.

Listing Levels

Our directory includes two categories of listings:

Profiles for treatment centers that chose to actively engage in providing patients and referring physicians with useful and accurate information about their equipment, staff, and capabilities.

Basic listings for treatment centers who do not participate in our directory or support our independent resource for evidence-based hyperbaric oxygen therapy.

ProfilePlus

Our most extensive directory option, ProfilePlus includes all the elements of our standard profile and these key additional features:

  • A free-form profile statement;
  • Photographs of the treatment center and staff;
  • Information for referring physicians;
  • Clinician education, degrees, and certifications;
  • Hyperbaric chamber features and photographs;
  • Videos (hosted by YouTube or the treatment center's own website).
